Where is Rincón?
Rincón is a beach town located on the west coast of Puerto Rico.
How to get there?
We drove to Rincón which took us almost 3 hours because the maps will take you through internal roads which take longer due to signals.
If you are staying in Rincón and have time to take more stops, you could also explore Playa Puerto Nuevo, Mar Chiquita beach or Cueva del Indio in Arecibo. You could fly to Rincón too if you feel fancy but it is better to drive so that it is easier to commute around in Rincon too.
Beaches to visit
Rincon is a beach town after all. It is known for its beautiful beaches. The beauty of Puerto Rico I would say is its beaches. You could visit 10 beaches in a day and experience how every beach is different from one another. Each beach has its own beauty and feels to it.
Domes Beach
This beach is named Domes as you can see a huge white shaped dome beside the beach which was an old nuclear power plant. Domes beach is known to be the best for surfing. While it is great for surfers due to its big waves, it is a fun beach for non-surfers too. Though please be vigilant due to the strong currents. You could pack a picnic or just lounge on the sand.
Faro Punta Higueras Lighthouse
The lighthouse is beautiful but nothing beats the panaromic views of the beach from the park around here. There is a bar there you could grab drinks from and enjoy the sunset views! There is a walking trail that takes you to the beach. You could also just stroll around here enjoying the ocean views!
STEPS BEACH
This beach is also called Reserva Marina Tres Palmas. We missed this board and drove past it trying to find signs for “Steps Beach”.
You will find concrete steps on the beach which also is an ideal spot for good pictures overlooking the beach and sunset. This beach has rocks so please carry water shoes. And snorkeling gear to watch the fishes underwater.
While the other beaches are known for surfing, this beach is much calmer and known for snorkeling.
MARIA’S BEACH
A lot of surfing on this beach as well due to the waves. You could also take surfing lessons here or just chill at the beach while watching the surfers maneuvering the waves. That’s what I did. It was fun.
Places to eat at:
Ola Sunset Café– You will find this when you visit the lighthouse
Caddy’s Calypso– This is located on Maria’s beach
The Beach House– Go for the sunset and live music
If you have time on your itinerary, you should stay here for a night and explore the small town.
You decide to stay here and want to explore other things around?
Cabo Rojo
Visit Cabo Rojo if you aren’t tired of beaches. It is a 50-55 minutes drive from Rincón. Besides the beaches, you could also see some scenic landscapes.
Gozalandia falls
Also, known as Cascada Gozalandia. It is about 1-hour drive from Rincón. You will find pools and waterfalls here.
Puerto Rico has so much to see and do and Rincón is just a part of it. If you love beaches, you should definitely visit Flamenco Beach on Culebra Island which is unmissable!
